The Beautiful Banaquit

Banaquits don't have a lovely song; they make what sounds almost like small clicks but their cuteness more than makes up for what they lack in voice. These small birds are sugar addicts and often visit the hummingbird feeder we've hung up. Below are pictures of one of the frequent visitors.


I've been lurking near the feeder trying to get better shots but they keep a weather eye out at all times.

  4. What pretty little birds! We are having fun watching for the return of many of our songbirds as the springtime migration begins ... love this time of year!

    1. They are pretty, aren't they?! The territory usually takes part in the Audubon bird count and the last few annual ones have shown a decline in our native birds and in the ones that migrate to us.

  10. I can totally relate to trying to "out-wait" a wary bird! Sometimes it takes me years, but I *will* prevail! LOL Loved your photos of a bird I've never seen before.

    1. I keep my camera near the kitchen door so when I see them I try sidling out but by the time I've raised it, they're gone!
